About Our Parish

Our Community

Our four parish community is located in Sturgeon County, and consists of the parishes of St. Peter, St. Catherine, St. Emerence, and St. Charles. Our four parishes are served by one parish priest, who resides in Villeneuve, AB., and by one parish office.

Our mission is to continue the saving mission of Christ in our area through the faithful celebration of the Liturgy of the Church, and in communion with our local Ordinary, Archbishop Richard W. Smith, and our Holy Father, Pope Francis.

Our Parish Priest

Fr. Mahesh Rathinasamy, SAC

I belong to the religious congregation called the Pallottine Fathers. God has been very instrumental in my life and I received a calling when I was 16 years old. I was ordained in 1999.

During the initial years of my priestly life I worked at a couple of parishes in India and then for six years I worked at a Pallottine seminary as the prefect of students. Then I was asked go to France in 2007 and served at the Divine Mercy Shrine in Osny Paris, France. I arrived in Canada in 2009 and served three years at Holy Family parish in St. Albert. Since July 2012 I have served in rural Alberta at St. Mary's parish and Corpus Christi parish.

I am happy as a priest ‘to follow in the footsteps of Jesus’ and I had wonderful experiences working with the people at both of these parishes. As a citizen of India and missionary priest I am open to any reality, any culture and any situation that is why I am coming to serve God at St. Peter parish, Vileneuve, and all the attached parishes in Calahoo, Mearns and Rivere-Qui-Barre.

Priest's Home Visits

Our parish priest would like to visit your home. You can invite him by phoning the parish office, email him directly, or speak to him before or after any of the Masses. During the visit to your home,  Father can bless your house if it has not been blessed, or simply enjoy the company of your loved ones as he gets to know you and you get to know him.

Consultative Committees to our Priest

PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL (PPC)

The PPC is a consultative body whose primary purpose is to work with the Pastor regarding all matters pertaining to the pastoral life of the parish. Its role is consultative in nature, assisting in the discernment of the ongoing pastoral needs of the parish and in suggesting strategies helpful in pastoral planning and action devoted to continue the saving mission of Christ in our area.

The current Chair of the Parish Pastoral Council of our parishes is:

  • PPC Chair - Carol Nelson
  • PPC Vice-Chair - Ray Soetaert
  • Secretary - Brent Kieser

FINANCE COMMITTEE

In the Code of Canon Law of the Church and the policy of our Archdiocese, it is stated that Finance Committees are to exist in all parishes as separate entities from the PPC. While this committee does not set parish goals for each individual parish, it does develop budgets and strategies, and assists in implementing fiscal goals and priorities set by the Pastor and the PPC. In other words, the role of the committee is financial and administrative planning.

At the moment, Father has appointed Jeff Cory and Kieran St. Amand as the members of the Finance Committee for our four Parishes.
