About Our Parish

Our Community

Our four parish community is located in Sturgeon County, and consists of the parishes of St. Peter, St. Catherine, St. Emerence, and St. Charles. Our four parishes are served by one parish priest, who resides in Villeneuve, AB., and by one parish office.

Our mission is to continue the saving mission of Christ in our area through the faithful celebration of the Liturgy of the Church, and in communion with our local Ordinary, Archbishop Richard W. Smith, and our Holy Father, Pope Francis.

Our Parish Priest

Fr. Shimit Abraham, CFIC

My name is Shimit Abraham. I am a priest of the Congregation of the Sons of the Immaculate Conception (CFIC). I have served as Hospital Chaplin, Associated Pastor and Pastor of the Archdiocese of Edmonton, since 2013.

I enjoy travelling, big games, and reading.

I’ve wanted to be a priest since school. As many do, however, I took the longer road. Before getting ordained I taught in school and colleges.

My formal education includes:
+ Bachelor of Philosophy, Dharmaram College Bangalore, India 2001;
+ Master of Economics, M.G.  University Kottayam, India 2004;
+ Bachelor of Theology, Oriens Theological College Shillong India, 2009.

I look forward to getting to know all of you as I continue my Christian Journey as Pastor in St. Peter, Villeneuve and all the attached parishes in Calahoo, Mearns and Riviere Qui Barre. I hope I can offer my best in helping in your spiritual Journey. God bless.

Priest's Home Visits

Our parish priest would like to visit your home. You can invite him by phoning the parish office, email him directly, or speak to him before or after any of the Masses. During the visit to your home,  Father can bless your house if it has not been blessed, or simply enjoy the company of your loved ones as he gets to know you and you get to know him.

Consultative Committees to our Priest

PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL (PPC)

The PPC is a consultative body whose primary purpose is to work with the Pastor regarding all matters pertaining to the pastoral life of the parish. Its role is consultative in nature, assisting in the discernment of the ongoing pastoral needs of the parish and in suggesting strategies helpful in pastoral planning and action devoted to continue the saving mission of Christ in our area.

The current Chair of the Parish Pastoral Council of our parishes is:

  • PPC Chair - Ray Soetaert
  • PPC Vice-Chair - Carol Nelson
  • Secretary - Brent Kieser

FINANCE COMMITTEE

In the Code of Canon Law of the Church and the policy of our Archdiocese, it is stated that Finance Committees are to exist in all parishes as separate entities from the PPC. While this committee does not set parish goals for each individual parish, it does develop budgets and strategies, and assists in implementing fiscal goals and priorities set by the Pastor and the PPC. In other words, the role of the committee is financial and administrative planning.

At the moment, Father has appointed Jeff Cory and Kieran St. Amand as the members of the Finance Committee for our four Parishes.
